Grain Merchant / Grain Buyer
Location: Vegreville, AB Area
Our client, (GrainCorp), is an international grain company that is best known in Canada for owning Canada Malt and fifty percent of Grains Connect Canada (which is building four inland grain terminals). Construction of the Vegreville terminal, is well underway, and an office will be in place soon. We are looking for a Grain Merchant who will be based out of the Vegreville Grain Terminal and will travel within the territory calling on local producers.
Your role as the new Grain Merchant is to build relationships with farmers in the area based on trust. Your approach will be based on building long term business rather than one deal at a time. You will gain respect by sharing global & regional grain market reports, and being transparent in your dealings. You will add value at the farm gate level by becoming a valued source of information, helping producers understand the implications of the data, offering grain marketing options that fit their needs, and being a trusted coach to your customers.
Relationship building is best done face to face, so well over half of your time will be outside of the office, as you call on farmers at their farm. In the first year, a large part of the job will be building farmer awareness of GrainCorp, and bringing in new customers. Therefore, confidence in doing cold calls will be important to your success. A company truck will be provided for both business and your personal use.
GrainCorp treats their people right. They are well funded and invest in their people as well as their business. You can join them in their brand-new facility and report to the Origination & Country Logistics Manager. GrainCorp offers career advancement opportunities within their growing Canadian business as well as their international operations.
To be considered you must have the right attitude; you must truly care about helping grain producers market their grain profitably. You will give them the information they need to make good business decisions and offer them options in a trust based transparent approach. In addition to this, you must have related experience in the grain sector.
